The author's first book, one of approximately 1200 copies printed. Illustrated by Robert Pailthorpe. As an editor, John W. Campbell was, according to Isaac Asimov, "the most powerful force in science fiction ever." While still a student first at MIT and Duke, Campbell established himself as a prolific writer for the pulps, writing space opera under his own name and darker, moodier pieces under the pseudonym Don A. Stuart. (One of these latter pieces was the basis for the classic movie, The Thing.) But it was as an editor that he was most influential. Under his helm, the magazine Astounding Science Fiction shifted from standard pulp fare to works of extrapolation. He was famous for insisting that his authors base their stories on sound scientific principles, and cultivated a new generation of writers - including Asimov, Heinlein, Van Vogt, and Sturgeon whose work was both exciting and scientifically plausible. Although not marked, this was from the library of Milton A. Rothman, whose classic story "Heavy Planet" appeared in the August, 1939 issue of Astounding Science Fiction. In 333. Fine in a dustwrapper with a few shallow chips from spine and rear panels. N° de ref. de la librería 11723
