SPECIAL PROVENANCE: Bookplate inside front cover: "Richard C Marohn, M.D." (Horse rampant to the left). Richard C Marohn was an acclaimed collector of American Firearms and author in his own right, eg " The Last Gunfighter: John Wesley Hardin". He is remembered for his collection of Colt firearms. His estate was auctioned in 1996. "Marohn was perhaps the most adept and prolific collector of high quality Colt Lightnings, Thunders, & Rainmakers along with a huge assemblage of John Wesley Hardin memorabilia. At a time when many Colt collectors focused primarily on the Single Action Army revolvers, Marohn realized the historical significance of the Colt 1877 double action. As the Lightning and Thunderer were favorites of Hardin, it was natural that Marohn would also focus on Hardin artifacts. Pat Garret, of Billy the Kid fame, was an owner of a presentation 1877 and numerous items owned by Garret are also in (that) catalog." The book itself is reference cited by: Herd 2217, Six-Guns 2175.
