Quarto, wrappers, 20 x 15.5 cm, pp 319, including a section of some 25 pages of "Fotografias historicas." Born at the end of the 19th century being , exact date unknown, he was a travelling drug salesman, but always active in Catholic groups in Mexico. At the outbreak of the revolt, Degollado quickly rose to be one of the leaders of the Cristero revolt in Mexico (1926 - 29). They were surprisingly effective for awhile, but lack of support from the official Church and a truce which was made between the bishops and the government, resulted in a cessation of the revolt without obtaining their goals, the full recognition of the Church in Mexico. the government took its revenge by assassinating the leaders over time. Degollado went into hiding, however, from 1929 until his death in 1957, for fear of government reprisal. Some age-toning of the spine; the text is printed on cheap paper but is in very good condition. Very good copy of this important account of the Cristero War. N° de ref. de la librería
