A "Medicine Story" is the sharing by an Indian Medicine Person which tells how they acquired their personal Totems and Medicine Powers through Visions and Sacred Ceremonies. It is a story from the heart, which is meant to inspire and teach us how to live in harmony with all life. Even as "pitiful" human beings, we can learn to be servants of the Creator, and to live life in a courageous and Powerful way. Our "Medicine Story" experiences give us a sense of inner authority about spiritual truths that cannot be taken away by anyone. To hear the "Medicine Story" of anyone is to hear the meaning of their life,, and to be given a chance to learn from their experiences. This book is the "Medicine Story" of a white woman whose spiritual quest led her into the Native American forms of spirituality. Though she had intended on becoming a minister in a liberal Protestant church, and then to specialize in Pastoral Psychotherapy, life led her instead to move to Colorado, and there to find that the Indian Ways had more meaning and Power for her life. She followed her dreams, and found them to be accurate Visions guiding her into a new life, with new friends and ceremonies for getting in touch with the Sacred Great Mystery, which creates all life. She does not claim to be a "Medicine Woman" in any Traditional way, but rather to be a searching human being who has found a viable spiritual tradition, and who wishes to share a journey of discover with others.
