Descripción:

Six issues of McClure's Magazine in hardcover binding (9 3/4 x 7 inches) featuring six articles detailing the "Great Cases" of Wm. J. Burns, of the Detective Agency. The spine of the volume states "Burns Detective Stories 1912." The issues of the magazine, which include covers and all advertising, are for the months of January, February, March, June, August, and October 1912. Hinges are very weak; spotting to cover and spine. Tears to 2 or three advertising pages; covers cropped for binding; January cover abraded on spine edge and chipped at bottom free edge. Contents overall very good. The six Burns articles are (January) "How Burns Caught the Dynamiters"; (February) "Gompers and Burns on Unionism and Dynamite"; (March) "Some Burns Plants: Great Cases of Detective Burns"; (June) "Finessing: Detective Burns' Great Cases"; (August) "A Case of Corruption: Detective Burns' Great Cases"; (October) "Detective Burns' Great Cases: The Mystery of the Double Eagles." The monthly issues also include articles by settlement worker Jane Addams (Hull House); "The First Montessori School in America" by Anne E. George and "The Montessori Apparatus" by Josephine Tozier (both with photo illustrations); "How the Goulds Dissipated a Railroad Dynasty"; "Permanent Owners of New York" (the Astors and others) and fiction by Willa Cather (chapters of "Alexander's Masquerade," a novel printed in installments, and "The Bohemian Girl," a novelette (complete) in the August number. The period advertising is a revelation, with particular emphasis on automobiles (electric and gasoline). N° de ref. de la librería
