Acerca de

Based on new material obtained under the Freedom of Information Act and on extensive interviews in both the Black and white communities, this biography cum oral history and photo-documentary commemorates the dynamic Civil Rights leader's life, time, and influence

From Library Journal:

While offering considerably less detail than Stephen B. Oates's Let the Trumpet Sound: the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. ( LJ 7/82), this study of King includes more than 200 outstanding photographs carefully placed to support the narrative. Witherspoon draws heavily from personal interviews with key Civil Rights leaders and King confidantes conducted primarily in late 1984, as well as from major secondary sources. King's disputes with other black leaders and his occasional failures are given fair attention, along with his remarkable accomplishments. Despite factual errors that appear in several tangential references to the Vietnam War, this book provides a concise, well-written overview suitable to general public library readership. James B.
