This is a nicely preserved copy of the Second Printing of Frank R. Stockton's collection of stories, eponymously titled after the first story in the book, "The Magic Egg and Other Stories". Published posthumously in 1908 by Charles Scribner's Sons, the book is graced with nine plate illustrations in monochrome by various artists. Here again were happy readers given twelve fresh stories by one of America's favorite authors. *********************** Stockton was famous - a justly popular - for his genial stories - many of them fairy tales, and designed for children. But adults enjoyed them as well and no wonder, for Stockton used gentle humor and irony rather than didactic preaching to communicate his points (unbridled greed, abuse of power, meanness and violence all were targets of his intellect). His most famous story is "The Lady of the Tiger", which still sets English classes to discussion. ************************* In this book there are the following excellent stories: The Magic Egg / "His Wife's Deceased Sister / The Widow's Cruise / Captain Eli's Best Ear / Love Before Breakfast / The Staying Power of Sir Rohan / A Piece of Red Calico / The Christmas Wreck / My Well and What Came Out of It / Mr. Tolman / My Unwilling Neighbor / Our Archery Club TITLE : The magic Egg and Other Stories / AUTHOR : Frank R.
