"Large folding engraved map on two joined sheets (approx. 30 x 55 in.; 76 x 140 cm), "Map of the United States and Territories. Shewing the Extent of Public Surveys and other Details … under the Direction of Joseph S. Wilson, Commissioner," hand-colored in outline, with a color-coded legend locating deposits of gold, silver, copper, tin, iron, coal, oil springs, etc. BINDING/CONDITION: Some light toning to text, two leaves browned, light text offsetting to blank areas of map, a few punctures at intersections of folds. Original purple pebbled cloth blocked in blind and lettered gilt on front cover; extremities lightly faded, endpapers spotted. (65B2E) PROVENANCE: Doyle, 17 April 2019, lot 51.
