222, (1) pages; Clean and secure in original binding of rough weave green cloth with mounted title labels printed in black and red, some wear to cloth at spine ends. Former owner's name on first blank after pictorial wood-block endpapers, chapter head-piece illustrations, decorative borders with Japanese characters to each page of text. OCLC: 2755042 A lovely production of Mrs. Fraser's charming novel Mary Crawford Fraser (1851-1922) was a writer noted for her various memoirs and historical novels. In 1889, her husband Hugh Fraser was posted to Japan as "Minister Plenipotentiary and Envoy Extraordinary to Japan" before the establishment of full and equal relations between Britain and Japan which Fraser was negotiating.
