Royal octavo 230 x 140mm). Pp. 214, (2) errata (verso blank). Plus 5 folding plates with a total of 61 finely engraved impressions of coins, bound at end. Half-title present. Foot- and shoulder notes. Hardcover, bound in quarter cloth and marbled boards, these bit rubbed. In fine condition. Excellent copy, beautifully preserved interior. ~ First and only edition. Abbot Joseph Ghesquière's (1731-1802) treatise on early Dutch coins, including Belgium and Luxemburg. It represents the most important Belgian and Dutch coins from the Celtic time until 1450. In 1779, Ghesquière's "Dissertation de M. l'Abbé Ghesquière (.) sur les différens genres de médailles antiques, ou examen critique des 'Nouvelles recherches sur la science des médailles' par M. Poinsinet de Sivry" was published in Nivelles by E. Plon. Uncommon. KVK locates copies in National Library of the Netherlands, French Union Catalog, and Union Catalog Southwest Germany.
