Folio, leaf size 270x168mm. In recent dark-brown calf binding, with six raised bands and burgundy lettering-piece on the spine. All edges speckled red. [12], 128, 301-350; 353-407, [9] pages, with some further errors in pagination. NOTE: The final four leaves are from another copy of the same edition. [2] leaves of plates, one folded. The engraved portrait frontispiece is signed 'C. Melan et Bosse Sculp.' [Bosse, Abraham, 1602-1676, engraver]; on the recto there is an ownership inscription 'Isaac Hitchcock | 1760'; there is also some strengthening in the margins and a tear at foot closed without loss. Title-page in red and black. Includes Index, pages [2-8], and 'A Catalogue of Mr. Howels Works .', pages [8-9] at end. Variant title: Perlustration of the City of London. 'Largely borrowed from Stow.' Cf. DNB; Wing (CD-ROM, 1996), H3091; Van, W.H. Notes on the writings of James Howell, 38a. Pforzheimer, 515. Occasional tanning, spotting and slight damp-marking.
