The "Log of the Huia" was first published in 1947 with this second edition in the same format coming in 1951. The Huia was famous in NZ waters and in Australia where she regularly traded trans-Tasman, carrying explosives in the later years. Huia was a long lived little ship and one of the last trading survivors in sail. She experienced her share of incidents and hazards of the sea, she was fast and seaworthy and highly regarded to the many who sailed in her. When the first edition was published the Huia was still trading, but she ended her days in the Pacific, on a reef at the south-eastern end of New Caledonia in 1951 and this material was added to the original text, completing the story of a famous little ship that first sailed in 1894. A well told story of a notable schooner. Signed "Cliff Hawkins" on title page. 107 pages, 67 b/w photos, five plans, three charts, numbers, penants and house flags. Green hard covers with gilt front/spine titls and front bird decoration VG++, ditto text block, erratum strip tipped in FFEP. Quite scarce in its original format. (Note:"The Log of the Huia" was republished in a larger, revised format by Collins in 1973.). N° de ref. de la librería 003668
