Sinopsis: On his trip deep into the forest, Little Wolf, who fears giants more than just about anything else, finds that his biggest fears may be hiding him from his biggest friend, in a colorfully illustrated story.
From School Library Journal:
Although his mother assures him that no giants lurk in the wood, Little Wolf has his fears renewed by noises he hears on the way to Granny's house. With each slurp, crash, and splash coming from behind him, he quickens his pace, without once looking back, and leaps over a rock, a big hole, and a dilapidated bridge. Illustrations adequately project a not-so-scary wood and a kind, wide-eyed giant who finally catches up with Little Wolf, entangled in the branches of a fallen tree. A clever twist on the familiar Little Red Riding Hood plot prevails until the very end when wolf and giant become friends and discuss the possibility of witches existing in the wood (the picture belies their dismissal of the idea) while deciding to have tea at Granny's together. An efficient blend of very brief text and softly colored art makes this a worthy addition to picture-book collection, providing action to sustain attention, humor to cause smiles, and a sensitive underscoring of the merits of friendship without preaching. --Gloria E.
