This contains 6 fold-out leaves or (12)pp with French text, numerous b/w photos, and a map. Good with creases, wear, and some pencil annotations. The wraps feature a striking wrap-around colour painting by B. (Benjamin) Sarraillon, which shows the bus carrying tropical suited pith helmeted colonials through a composite landscape including traditional mud mosque and rugged desert scenery peopled with locals. The introductory text states how SATT which under its Director General Georges Estienne established the Colomb-Bechar-Gao route, extended its services in Dec 1933 to link with the railway terminus at Kano in British Nigeria, made safe by air and radio links. The stopping points running from north to south through the Sahara were Algiers, Ghardaia, El Golea, In Salah, Arak, Tamanrasset, In Guezzam, Agades, Zinder with forks to Niamey and Fort Lamy, and Kano. It includes itineraries, timetables, tariffs, baggage allowances, tourist routes and itineraries, hunting, air services, repairs, links to London, Paris and Lagos, terms and conditions, etc. Photos (some of which credited to the Algerian Economic and Tourism Office, Ofalec-Alger) show the bus en-route, hotels, stops (breakfast in the desert, towns, etc), locals including Touareg notables, and landscapes. The map shows stops, railway connections, hotels, camps, telegraph, fuel and repair stations. Georges Estienne (1896-1969) was a French aviator, explorer and businessman. In 1923 he led the first of two missions for Gaston Gradis' Compagnie Generale Transsaharienne (CGT) to explore land and air links particularly between Algeria and Niger, and participated in the second led by Gradis. In 1926 he began mapping out the "Bidon V' route from Adrar with his brother Rene, became head of CGT, and created a sleeping car. He established the route to Gao in 1927, which became popular with hunters. In 1933 he resigned from CGT and became involved in opening the oasis route through the Hoggar Mountains (Ligne du Hoggar) as head of SATT. This made it possible to travel from Algiers to Kano in 11 days. The extensions to Fort Lamy and Kano made it longest automobile route in the world. N° de ref. del artículo 4457
