Small 4to. Grey cloth, dust jackets. xii, 768pp; xii, 497pp. Illustrations. Fine/fine. A superb first edition of the first two volumes (only) of this three-volume set. The limited editions, each number 21 out of 2000 copies with the recipient's name handsomely calligraphed on the limitation page; each volume is signed and inscribed by the author in black fineline ("With best wishes, / George H. Nash" in Volume 1 and "For William P. Whipple, / with all best wishes, / George H. Nash / September 1, 1988" in Volume 2). Also accompanied by a pamphlet, Nash's "Herbert Hoover: Political Orphan" (Stanford: Hoover Institution, 1989), an 11-page 8vo speech in stiff wrappers. The front wrapper has been boldly inscribed and signed by Nash to the same recipient and dated 17 June 1989. Fine. Also present are two TLsS and one ANS from Nash dated between 1 July 1987 and 4 December 1988, each 1p, all addressed to William P. Whipple. All fine.
