Illustrations, Index, if any, are included in black and white. Each page is checked manually before printing. As this reprint is from very old book, there could be some missing or flawed pages, but we always try to make the book as complete as possible. Fold-outs, if any, are not part of the book. If the original book was published in multiple volumes than this reprint is of only one volume, not the whole set. This paperback book is SEWN perfect bound, where the book block is actually sewn (smythe sewn/section sewn) with thread before binding which results in a more durable type of paperback binding. Descripción Faber and Faber, London, 1955. Hardcover. Estado de conservación: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Hardcover xl - INSCRIBED BY QUEEN HELEN from an academic library, no dj, clean, minimal library wear and markings - "For Mr Myron Taylor from Helen Queen Mother of Romania 1955" [Princess Helen of Greece and Denmark (2 May/3 May 1896 - 28 November 1982) was the wife of King Carol II of Romania and the mother of King Michael I of Romania. Queen Mother of Romania .In September 1940 Michael was restored to the throne. Now aged eighteen, he recalled his mother to Romania. She received the designation Queen Mother of Romania (Regina mama, Elena). During World War II she devoted herself to the care of the wounded. For her efforts to rescue Romanian Jews from the Nazis, she was awarded the status of Righteous Among the Nations ] [ Myron Charles Taylor (1874 - 1959) was one of the major figures in American life during the first half of the twentieth century. He was probably America's leading industrialist, and later a key diplomatic figure at the hub of many of the most important geopolitical events before, during, and after World War II. In addition he was a philanthropist of note giving generously to his alma mater, Cornell University, and a number of other causes Taylor won a U.S. government contract for mail pouches and related products. He quickly exploited this lucrative business and began to not only introduce innovations like the transparent "window" in envelopes through which an address is display, but to also buy up competitors. . On December 22, 1939, President Roosevelt called to ask Mr. Taylor "to take on a special mission for me." He subsequently asked Taylor to serve as the president's personal representative to Pope Pius XII.[3] Taylor accepted the offer. Initially his direction was to prevent Italy from joining the war with Germany. Later he would be influential in urging limited bombing of Rome, and then to only specific military targets. In the summer of 1942, Taylor went on his most signifiant mission yet. He was asked to convey to the pope that the United States would win the war and there would be no peace without victory. Another accomplishment of this trip was to influence the Pope to speak out in the atrocities being perpetuated against the Jews. Taylor was also successful in persuading Franco (Spain) to not join the Axis. Inscribed by Author. Ex-Library. Nº de ref. de la librería 08295.190602
