PRESENTATION COPY FROM THE AUTHOR. First edition of a Hungarian work on the idea of the soul in the history of philosophy, with special reference to HEGEL. Károly Taubner was born in Hungary in 1809 and studied in Berlin during the 1830s. He was apparently tutor to a young Count Radzinsky with whom he travelled to Poland, Russia and Sweden, before returning to Hungary to become Rector-Professor in a Gymnasium. In 1844 he moved to Milan, Italy, and became a priest. He published at least two other works on Hegel. The date of his death is not known. PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: 8vo, viii, 9-193, pp., contemporary leather-backed boards, spine lettered gilt, uniformly browned, presentation inscription on front endpaper 'Franciso Orioli, in tesseram sui aestimii et honoris, Auctor, Genuae 16. septembris 1846'. Facing the presentation inscription Taubner has helpfully written a Latin translation of his book's title, in lines which imitate the layout on the title-page.
