Descripción

More than 100 years after the setllement of the districts of Waimumu and Te Tipua, nestled close to the Hokonui Range, this history of the district was published. It looks back to the 1850s when the first white settlers arrived, taking it to the early 1960s. It is a book with a different conception than most. It was compiled by Lyal Barry, headmaster at Waimumu Scool in the late 1950s. Those who read his manuscript found is so interesting that a committee was set up arrange for its publication. The result is a well compiled and presented, comprehensive and entertainong account of the district, its early settlers, the development of indistries and farming, community and social affairs , education, sport and many other aspects of life over 100 years in rural Southland. 389 pages, 33 b/w photos, rear e/papers map, Green hard civers with gilt spine titles VG+, gift inscription top FFEP, text block otherwise excellent.
