8°. XXXII, 317 S., 1 w. Bl. Späterer Pappband mit hs. Rückenschild, teils etwas gebräunt, auf starkem Papier, hs. Besitzeintrag auf dem Titel. Erste Ausgabe. Carl Ludwig Fernow (*1763 in Blumenhagen; 1808 in Weimar) war ein deutscher Kunsttheoretiker, Romanist und Bibliothekar in Weimar. Als Kunsttheoretiker verfügte er über eine große Fähigkeit der Darstellung, nicht aber der Methode. So lästerte Friedrich Schiller in einem Brief an Goethe über Fernow und den ihm in der Methodik überlegenen Hegel: "Suchen Sie doch Hegel und Fernow einander näher zu bringen, ich denke es müßte gehen, dem einen durch den andern zu helfen. Im Umgang mit Fernow muß Hegel auf eine Lehrmethode denken, um ihm seinen Idealismus zu verständigen, und Fernow muß aus seiner Flachheit herausgehen." Mit Jens Immanuel Baggesen und Friedrich Weinbrenner bereiste er Italien. Von Ludwig Fernow stammen ca. 2.000 italienische Bücher der Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek, die er aus Rom 1803 nach Weimar importierte. Goethe kaufte diesen Bestand für die Bibliothek nach dem Tod Fernows auf. Fernow war Mitglied der Freimaurerloge Amalia in Weimar. 300 gr. N° de ref. de la librería
