Acerca de

The main body of the book assembles a collection of photographs of painted humans, shot on analog film, without any digital manipulation, in the context of several desert landscapes in the United States. All photographs attempt to bring forward the body as our most intimate tool of perception -- outside of Eros -- of the universe‘s complexity and beauty. Through the careful staging of the models and colors, it is hoped that the viewer may see a poetical performance suggesting the multitude of rapports we can experience with our environment. Further, the work attempts to evoke a most common human longing: the experience of freedom -- which is seen by some as a basis of a host of spiritual practices.

About the Author:

Starting at an early age Jean-Paul Bourdier, in his home country of France always held a passion for the earth, painting, drawing, dance, lighting, architecture and photography. His latest book, Vernacular Architecture of West Africa (assembling his photographs and drawings of a disappearing way of building), came out in 2011 and his latest photography book, Bodyscapes was published in 2007 . Besides being a painter, he has been the Production Designer and Co-Producer of several films by Trinh Minh-Ha. Since 1976 he taught Architecture in Senegal and many U.S. Universities. In 1982 he became a Professor of Architecture and Photography at the University of California Berkeley where he continues to teach while working on several other visual book projects.
