Very fragile copy; no date on pages but cir 1897. Uneven pages with string binding; extensive foxing, staining, soiling. bits of some corners of few pages torn away. Black and white woodblock illustrations. Contents page is loose from binding-with smudges, soiling and torn corners. It identifies 18 sections of the book. Pages that are intact include the following: The Peculiar History of the Chewing-Gum Man ( three page poem); My Feet; Th' Invisible Bridge; The Runaway Train; An Impossible Epic; Sequel to the Chewing-Gum Man; The Lamp Posts; Leaves from off a Tree; Purple Cow; My House and how I make My Bed; The Goop; Plaster o'Paris; The Flying House; (5 page narritive poem; Giant Horse; The Towel and the Door; What Smith Tried to Believe; (It appears that a few of the 18 poems listed in the Contents is missing). Front cover missing; two pages are excised from binding and appear to be last two pages of the book. .One Page has edges that are extremely frayed with staining and tears. b/w cartoon with words: "Ah, yes, I wrote the "Purple Cow"; I'm Sorry, now, I wrote it: But I can tell you Anyhow, I'll Kill you if you Quote it!". Back side ot this page is entitled, "The Soles of the Unfortunates. The other loose page (most likely the cover page) is light green bamboo paper that is in extremely poor condition-large outer edge areas are chipped and torn; some areas missing; top right corner portion is loose from remainer of page. Words are:"Who'll be the Clerk!" "I" said THE LARK" VERY RARE VINTAGE, DAMAGED, AND FRAGILE COPY but the pages are readable. N° de ref. de la librería S44-B3797-7503
