Descripción

Photographs, maps, charts and tables; Oblong 4to 11" - 13" tall; Issued in a limited edition of unknown number. Bound in original maroon cloth with titles to cover in gilt with a single blind ruled border. Spine unlettered, as issued. Original floral endpages. This copy lacks a numbered limitation page - either not bound in, or more likely missing. Most recorded copies have a large fold-out map of the railway line, which this copy lacks. Colophon page with printer’s device is detached and laid in at rear. Cloth at spine ends and corners rubbed. Spine a bit shaken; front endpage tenderly attached. Some several plates missing their tissue guards and some several other tissue guards creased or accordion folded. Scattered mild foxing, largely confined to front matter. This lavishly produced overview of the railroad is an uncommon and significant volume of western Americana and railroadiana. It was published by the Laramie Railroad board as an inducement to invest in the area of the railroad’s operations. Profusely illustrated with tissue guarded, descriptive photographic plates on heavy, coated paper. Accompanied by economic reports and summaries of enterprises and resources in areas served by the railway, including the towns of Laramie, Hayden, Meeker, Steamboat Springs, Vernal etc. Photos show various views and industries and resources, such as mining, cattle ranching, lumbering etc. The Laramie Railway suffered economic difficulties from the outset, was reorganized a few years after completion and was ultimately purchased and integrated by Union Pacific. An imperfect copy, lacking the limitation page and fold-out map that was originally laid in loose. Still, it is complete in regard to photographic plates and text, and generally clean. Might benefit from some light restorative work, but is sound and attractive as is. A Good copy. . Oversize book may require additional charges for expedited or international shipping.
