Título: LIFE AT THE SOUTH, OR UNCLE TOM'S CABIN AS ...
Editorial: Geo. H. Derby and Co., Buffalo, New York
Año de publicación: 1852
Condición del libro: Very Good
Edición: FIRST EDITION.
Probably a re-binding from original -- three-quarter bound in red morocco leather (spine and corners). Spine leather a bit faded, ruled in gilt, and just a few insignificant scratches and stains to boards. 7 1/2 in. tall x 5 in. wide x 1 5/8 in. thick. 519 pp, and on the last page, someone (a spouse or parent?) has pencilled in -- one might surmise before the reader had finished so the reader, upon finishing would encounter the words:"Your time would have been better spent than in reading this." Well now. Example of the pro-slavery plantation literary genre, or "Anti-Tom" literature, perhaps in reaction/response to Beecher's Uncle Tom's Cabin. At the heart of this genre, one often finds the happy and contented slave, persuaded to leave the master, by abolitionists who were more concerned about their own larger cause, than the actual welfare of and extreme danger to, escaped slaves.
