New plain end papers. Foxed frontspiece of Jackson with steel engraved signature and some light foxing, agetoned paper, otherwise in very good condition and a handsome copy. Folding map (tri-fold map of the Battle of Chancellorsville) and full page maps are present plus diagrams throughout the text. Classic wartime biography of Jackson by his one-time Chief of Staff, who knew him well and had access to his personal papers and support of Jackson's widow. The first eight chapters had been published in England before the war ended and are decidedly pro-South, anti-Union. Dabney kept these chapters as they were and added twelve more chapters for this publication, which is illus. with maps throughout and a frontis. portrait of Jackson.
