12mo, 34 pp., contemporary blue paper wrappers, small marginal wormhole, otherwise very fresh, edges untrimmed. A sequel to La Mettrie's notorious L'Homme machine, and with a title evidently chosen to echo it, L'Homme plante first appeared in 1748, published by C.F. Voss in Potsdam. It contained a lot of notes and references which were removed when the text was reset for inclusion in his Oeuvres Philosophiques (Berlin 1751, and then several Berlin and Amsterdam reprintings over the next fifteen years). We believe this copy was made from the first 34 pages of tome 2 of the 1753 Amsterdam printing. The early blue wrappers are backed with printer's waste from an index in Latin. Descripción de la librería: We specialise in philosophy and related fields, with a particular emphasis on German texts.
