First edition with corrections. 8vo. Four parts bound as one, with separate title page for each part, and additional engraved title with portrait preceding first title page. (The engraved title is dated 1655 as the fourth part is 'newly corrected' but also dated 1654, so likely bound from original sheets and issued in 1655.) Recent full period-style mottled calf, four raised bands, resewn, with red morocco spine label, and new endpapers. , 142; , 119; , 144; , 72,  pp. Some light offsetting and occasional light foxing. Occasional older inked marginalia (generally an X in the margin). Engraved title with a small chip missing at upper margin, professionally repaired. Previous owner has inked Balzac's birth date to engraved Small hole to bottom of pages 3 and 4 of the Preface, and a small closed tear to bottom edge of pages 5 and 6 of the Preface.
