BRAND NEW Copy. Issued w/o DJ; gilt embossed indigo boards under mylar. First published 1884; this is a facsimile of the first edition, with an Introduction by Doris Stone, of 1964. Maria Soltera (Spanish for 'Mary Spinster', meant to indicate civil status), pseudonym of Mary Lester. Travel narrative. An account of a vivid, day to day life riding sidesaddle by muleback across some 300 miles of mountainous land. A keen observer, less prior knowledge of Honduras and the Spanish language, the author noted the exotic animal life, social customs, and political conditions of a jungle-trail-world at the end of the 19th century. Mary Lester kept journals; the manuscript first saw print in the British Blackwood's Magazine. N° de ref. de la librería 010402
