Kokugi Kanko (Viewing the Highlights of the National Art) ****** The rare signed first issue of Honinbo Jowa's first book, complete in the publisher's brown wrappers with mounted title slips, decorated with an embossed, repeating igo stone pattern (go-ishi), his red hanko seal on the first preface page of Volume I and on the first leaf of Volumes II-IV. The work is almost entirely a compilation of b/w woodblock print illustrations of 74 selected go games and the fine print impressions are sharp and fresh. Jowa was one of a handful of Japanese players in the history of the game to be accorded the ultimate accolade of go sage. ******
