This copy is in fine unmarked condition bound in original blue linen covered boards will blind banding to the front and gilt titling to the spine. A dust wrapper is not present. Illustrated with seventeen black and white plates and five tipped in fold out coloured maps. Field Marshal William Riddell Birdwood, 1st Baron Birdwood, GCB, GCSI, GCMG, GCVO, CIE, DSO (13 September 1865 – 17 May 1951) was a British Army officer. He saw active service in the Second Boer War on the staff of Lord Kitchener. He saw action again in World War I as Commander of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps during the Gallipoli Campaign in 1915, leading the landings on the peninsula and then the evacuation later in the year, before becoming Commander-in-Chief of the Fifth Army on the Western Front during the closing stages of the War. He went on to be General Officer Commanding the Northern Army in India in 1920 and Commander-in-Chief, India, in 1925. Ref Z1 Size: 456pp. N° de ref. de la librería

This is the autobiography of Field Marshal Lord Birdwood, 1865 to 1951. An Australian military leader, he was born in India and educated at RMC Sandhurst. Commissioned in 1885 the author was transferred to the Indian Army in 1887. In 1914 he was put in command of the Australian and New Zealand contingents then arriving in Egypt for the Dardanelles offensive. He planned the landing at Gallipoli, on Anzac Cove, as it was subsequently known. Upon evacuation from the Peninsula, the author took his troops to the Western Front, through the battles of the Somme and Ypres in 1916 and 1917. After the war he returned to India to command the Northern Army, becoming commander-in-chief in 1925, and retiring in 1930.
