RARE gilded & embossed illustrated hardcover book, sorry no dust-jacket. "Julio, the Slave" By Mrs. J. B. Webb. This is the 5th Edition, 1899, from the Windsor Library series New Illustrated Edition. Full title: "Julio, the Slave - A Tale of the Vaudois". 12mo, 19.1 cm x 13.1 cm x 2.2 cm, Blue decorated cloth-covered boards, Black & gilt embossed decoration and lettering on front cover and spine, Clear embossed publisher's logo on back cover, Top edge gilt, Decorated end papers (Green ivy leaf motif). 272 pages. Weight: 530 Grams. CONTENTS ARE LIKE NEW!!! Spine is discoloured but mostly clean & sturdy, small mark & scuff near tail, black & gilt lettering rubbed away in places but still nice, bumped & scuffed either end, binding tight! Cover is clean on front, back slightly marked, gilt bright, decoration rubbed away slightly but mostly ok, edge wear. Back corners bumped, all a bit scuffed. Prize sticker from Albert Street Council Schools, Bridgwater awarded in 1904 on first end paper. Pages 184 & 185 have foxing mark from dried flowers inserted in book by previous owner. Very light age tanning & very occasional foxing throughout. RARE ITEM, GENUINE ANTIQUE, EXCELLENT OVERALL CONDITION!!! Another lovely novel of exotic adventure for young persons, in which Mrs. J. B. Webb tells the tale of Julio Arnouf and the then mysterious Vaudois people of the Piedmont region at the foot of the Coltian Alps.
