Sinopsis: Born in Ghent in 1938, Flemish artist Jean Bilquin is known for his broadly humanist themes in his abstract figural art. From the late 1970s to the early 2000s he taught painting at the Ghent Academy, and in 2008 he had a major retrospective of paintings, drawings, and sculpture at the Kunsthal Sint-Pieterabdij, the museum at St. Peter's Abbey, exploring eight major themes in his work: the boat, man and animal, Sisyphus, Orpheus, the approach, heavenly paradise, mother and child, and the gesture of the step. This exhibit catalogue is filled with large reproductions and photographs of Bilquin's work throughout his career (captioned in Dutch, with summary translations of the introductory essays) and features two single gatefolds and a double gatefold-a 27-inch reproduction of the 1990 painting Metamorfose.
