It also contains the autobiography of the author, 121 references, 135 illustrations, 60 tables, 3 appendices, and an index with 2,200 names and 500 locations. The author was born in Walker County, Alabama in 1938. The book has information on William Sellers (born before 1657), John Sellers (born before 1670), Matthew Sellers (born before 1700, died 1740), Benjamin Sellers (born before 1724, died 1761), Benjamin Sellers (1740-1841), Samuel Sellers (1744-1794), Thomas Sellers (1745-1820), Isham Sellers (1754/55-1827), Elisha Sellers (1744-1801), Mathew Sellers (1768-1849), etc thru the 1960s. It has information on the Gilchrist family (also spelled as Killcrease and Gilcrease earlier). This family settled in Virginia and South Carolina before coming to Walker and Dallas County, Alabama. This includes names such as Arthur Killcrease, Edmon Gilchrist (1771-1875), John Gilchrist, etc. Other last names in the book include Dun, Christian, Bagwell, Lollar, Whatley. This book provides a cursory history of the Scots race of people, a genealogy of the author's Sellers and Gilchrist families as well as 14 related families (including Dunn, Christian, Savage, Shipp, and Bankhead), and an autobiography of the author, Terry Sellers, Jr. The book contains 121 references, 135 illustrations, 60 tables, three appendices, and the extensive index has more than 2,200 names and 500 locations. Terry Sellers, Jr. was born in Quinton, Walker County, Alabama and grew up in nearby Cordova, Alabama, graduating from Cordova High School in 1956. In 1960-61, he graduated from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama with B.S. and M.S. degrees in Forestry / Wood Technology. He obtained his doctoral degree from the University of Tokyo in Japan.
