1st. 8vo oblong 229pp/illus. 16 color plates and numerous textual illustrations by several artists, including Bodmer, McKenney and Hall, Catlin, and Lewis. x-lib - good clean copy. A vivid first-hand report of life, both native and pioneer, on the American frontier. Morgan's previously unpublished journals document his extensive field research among several tribes of Plains Indians, including the Blackfoot, Crow, Dakota, Minnetaree, and Shawnee. Often referred to as the "father of American anthropology," Morgan (1818-1881) was the first great American anthropological theorist and the author of "Ancient Society" (1877), an important and influential reflection of Social Darwinist doctrine. Morgan (1818-1881) is considered the "father" of American anthropology, and he ranks among the most eminent scientists of the nineteenth century. He counted Francis Parkman, Charles Eliot Norton, Henry Adams, Sir Henry Maine, and Thomas Huxley among his friends, and his writings exerted a profound influence upon such diverse thinkers as Charles Darwin and Karl Marx. He was also an intrepid adventurer ranging throughout the Great Plains and Rocky Mountain regions. His journals, a detailed record of his travels and research among Plains Indians, are published here for the first time. Textured brown cloth. N° de ref. de la librería C0014
