Descripción

This is a lithographic reproduction on six thick leaves of the deed and bargain of sale of Shakespeare's Blackfriar's Estate. Only 11 copies were done, as is certified by a note in Mr. Halliwell's handwriting on a front endpaper, where Halliwell has inscribed "Eleven copies only. Number Three. J.O.H." This is James Orchard Halliwell (afterwards J. O. Halliwell-Phillipps). Original three quarter green leather binding with gilt title lettering; corners and spine extremities are moderately rubbed with tiny chips, and there is minor to moderate shelfwear. Oblong folio: measures 12 inches (height) by 15 inches (length). Moderate discoloration to bottom edge of and minor foxing to the lithographed pages, and minor foxing scattered on the numerous blank front and rear endpapers. Previous owner's engraved bookplate on the inside front cover consisting of a demi-lion rampant surrounded by the motto "Sub robore virtus" from which is suspended what appears to be the Cross of a Knight Pensioner of Charles III. of Spain. Tiny stamp on a rear endpaper "F.S.L. Dupl." or Duplicate of the Folger Shakespeare Library. First edition. From the collection of Louis Marder, Shakespeare historian and collector of books by, on or referring to William Shakespeare. Size: Folio. N° de ref. de la librería 013329
