Acerca de

Sinopsis:

Readers of any age: push your imagination to full stretch with these vibrant stories, that bounce and tinkle and clang inside your head. While they are colourful and comical, they also show compassionate insight into the adventure of human experience. These stories are pure fantasy, but not about fantastical impossible worlds: only the world of human folly and accomplishment. They are written in competent rhyming verse, to delight you, if you savour not only the pictures that they conjure up in your mind, but the magic of fast-moving, well-chosen words. The stories concentrate on the positive side of life, tending to leave the reader feeling good, besides amused and amazed. This first collection is suitable for readers aged ten and upwards, with no upper limit. A subsequent collection will be aimed at younger readers.

About the Author:

Gregory Pastoll lives in Cape Town. He studied and worked in (and has taught) mechanical engineering, but also has many years experience as an educator, in a variety of fields of education, from teaching art and woodwork in a primary school, to English as a foreign language in South Korea and Austria, to postgraduate supervision in Higher Education (in which he has a PhD). He believes that the single most important thing you can do for young people is to develop their imaginations. When his children were young, he made up stories for them every day, and found that he derived as much pleasure as they did from good children's books. His fondness for rhyming words, and the power of musicality in speech, led to a special interest in writing the sort of stories in this collection. Besides his stories, he has developed and marketed a board game based on the sport of cricket, and has written the scripts and lyrics for two musicals, one of which, 'The PQ!' (music by Anthea Parnell) was performed for the first time in 2007. He has also made three violins (and sold two of them to competent players). He has published two books on education: Tutorials That Work (1992: Arrow Publishers, Cape Town), and Motivating People to Learn (2007: The Attic Press, Cape Town).
