Descripción:

A terse communique from the Illinois Central System on a letter-size piece of stationery offering employment as a dining car waiter to a male (presumed African-American) resident of New Orleans dated 1940. The address of the recipient, if unchanged from that given in the 75 year old letter indicates, at present, a modest one-story duplex. Of course it is impossible to know the significance to the recipient of this letter; however, an offer of employment (minus any details regarding remuneration, etc.) coming on the heels of the Depression must have been viewed as a welcome proposition (and of sufficient significance to warrant the letter's preservation). An uncommon piece of pre-war ephemera (again, presumably, African-American) regarding employment opportunity in a difficult economic climate. N° de ref. de la librería
