Acerca de

Sinopsis:

Margo and her family who live on Cape Cod prepare for and experience Hurricane Bob, which makes the electricity go out for five days but leaves their house intact.

From Kirkus Reviews:

Demas (The Littlest Matryoshka, 1999, etc.) writes a girl's description of her family's preparations when Hurricane Bob visited Cape Cod in 1991. With a matter-of-fact, businesslike air, the girl takes the laundry from the clothesline, helps her mother fill water containers and her father secure their small boat to a dock, brings in all the garden vegetables and flowers, then tries to distract the family dog. A jigsaw puzzle replaces lunch on the dining table as the wind increases and the sky darkens, and when the actual storm hits, the family cuddles together on the sofa. The storm's quiet eye lures them outside to inspect damage; the resumption of the storm scoots them back inside, where Daddy plays the harmonica. Electricity returns by the fifth night, bringing all mostly back to normal. The book presents several at-home survival precautions, but many young readers may wonder what all the fuss was about, so idyllic, almost complacent is its tone. The power of Nature becomes more the source of a time-out from regular routine than the basis for an involving series of events, a sense intensified by first-time illustrator Strohmeier's cosy watercolors.
