Horace Higby and the Field Goal Formula by William Heuman was published by Dodd, Mead & Company, New York, in 1965. Not an ex-library copy, this 5 1/2" X 8", 173-page, 47-year-old, First Edition offering is in VG-/G+ condition. The book is in quite nice, firm physical shape, but does display some very modest yellowing of text's endpapers and pages. The dust jacket, too, is in end-to-end quite sound condition, although some shelf wear is evident at top and bottom edges of jacket's spine, clear taping was required in one spot on inside, bottom edge of back cover of jacket, and the top corner of front inside jacket flap has been price clipped. From said front inside flap, "When Horace Higby, mathematical genius, came out for football at Caruthers Prep, the rest of the team had decided misgivings, because Horace was built like an animated scarecrow. The sadness turned to joy, though, when Horace, with his precise mathematical and scientific calculations, booted innumerable field goals to lead Caruthers to the county title, despite such minor errors on his part as wrong-way runs. .William Heuman, author of The Horse That Played the Outfield and City High Five, has written another good sports story for his fans." This offering's humorous tale is complemented immeasurably by the angular sketches of William Moyers, whose main character, Horace, bears an uncanny resemblance to this, at that time, well known artist. This is, in fact, an excellent vehicle to underscore the importance of MEETING ATHLETIC ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS and STRIVING FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE. The whole reason Horace is even allowed on the team is in exchange for his serving as a "Super Tutor" to a number of the overgrown lummoxes who are in serious danger of being declared ineligible for the upcoming football campaign. You can discover how Horace's career as a kicker evolves. This book would clearly be aimed at boy readers, say, ages 9-12 or 13, I'm estimating. I'm estimating, too, that this story would still hold up/entertain many of today's young readers. Thank you!!. N° de ref. de la librería 005619
