Tan printed wrappers. 4 by 6 inches. 8pp. A history of this violin dubbed the "Pag" which was purchased by Henry Hawks on the advice of Paganini. After Hawks died in Brooklyn in 1842 it passed into his sister's possession, eventually winding up on loan to a vocal teacher in Hadlyme, Connecticut. It was there that N.A. Mather heard the Pag for the first time and became determined to own it. He eventually did buy it in 1876 and had it tested against many notable violins of the time, including a 1684 Strad, Ole Bull's Gaspar Da Salo, and a Guardanini. The Pag was judged the better violin in all comparisons. This pamphlet was issued during Mather's old age in order to promote its sale. It is a good copy with some light staining and wear to the wrappers and text. Scarce. N° de ref. de la librería 6287
