{Minnesota Report 246-2000, Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station, University of Minnesota, Saint Paul, Minnesota}."Harold Arneman, Curtis Oveerdahl, and others started writing the history of the Soil Science Department around 1990. As could be expected, an activity of this nature required effort of many people, particularly the current and emeritus faculty. Unfortunately, Arneman died in 1995 and the project was laid aside for a time. In the winter of 1997-98, a group of emeritus faculty under the leadership of William Larson was organized to complete the project. Contributions were received from many sources, primarily current and emeritus faculty. People were asked to write or coordinate the various sections within this book. Because the sections have been written by many individuals, style and format may vary somewhat. This variation reflects ther diversity of the individuals in the department. We have tried to mention some of the key activities of the department and those who contributed to them. However, as long lists of faculty, graduate students, and post-doctorates indicate, it is impossible to mention all the individuals and their important contributions. We apologize for omissions the reader might deem significant. Other than its people, the soil, water, and climate resources of Minnesota are our state's greatest assets. Use of these resources for agriculture, forestry, recreation, industry and urban development has contributed greatly to Minnesota's thriving economy, and to making our state a desirable place to live. It is vital that our natural resources be developed and used, but also conserved for future generations. Conservation of our resources has not always been achieved to the fullest. Our efforts must be redoubled. Our hope in writing this book is two-fold. First, it should bring back pleasant memories to readers who have has a direct associastion with the department Second, it should help a wider audience become informed about the rich history of the department. It may bring a further realization of the importance of use and conservation of the resources. Perhaps, it will also serve as guide to the contributions, and mistakes of the past. The department, although limited in size, has contributed much to the well-being of Minnesota. It should now be poised to contribute even more to the future." This book has 240 pages and is illustrated throughout. The text contains NO internal marks whatsoever. Overall, this is a FINE copy of this SCARCE title. N° de ref. de la librería 062204
