2 volumes, octavo. Original purple cloth, spines lettered in gilt, top edges purple. With the dust jackets. Extremities bumped, vol. II spine rolled. A very good set in the dust jackets a touch sunned and soiled on the spines. First edition, second impression, this copy from the collection of American Islamicist Nicholas Heer, with his ownership inscription dated "Stanford 1961" to the front free endpaper of each volume: an excellent association. Despite the breadth implied by the title, first volume of this survey, first published in 1952, is devoted almost entirely to the history of philosophy in the Indian Subcontinent, from pre-Vedic elements to the emergence of Sikhism and also surveys currents in 20th-century Indian thought. Radhakrishnan (1888-1975) was a professor of philosophy at Oxford and various Indian universities before serving as President of India from 1962 to 1967. N° de ref. de la librería
