Acerca de

Sinopsis:

The Hermetic Whore is a dark compilation of a dozen short stories, each providing a unique view into private lives of individuals and the breakdown of public order. From the near apocalyptic changes of women giving up skirts and social acceptance of sexual self-gratification to absurdity of a pair of cats being the guardians a young girl's virginity, each story provides social commentary on the ever-changing world. Spielberg provides a unique view of some of the most pressing social problems such as children divorcing their parents to an old survivor of the holocaust being ushered into death with his oblivious family standing nearby

"True, the rabbi is fervently whispering into the dying man's ear. But my grandfather won't pay attention, let alone answer the questions. He struggles against the bedclothes. He fights the restraining arm of his interrogator. With unexpected strength, he shakes him off and scrambles to his knees. He kneels in bed- but not in prayer."- (The Duration of Life, 124) "It was our fault, they found, that the birth rate had plummeted 90% below zero growth, that the marriage license bureau had to close its doors, that absenteeism among male workers reached an all-time high, that unbridled truantism galloped from the sixth grade up through graduate school, that the work ethic was jettisoned, that the inner-cities began to look like ghost towns, that the gross national product went kaput, that only women ran for public office, that, in short, America was-and, alas, is- in retirement. My fault, they claim, that we have become a nation of eunuchs. For it's the male population that has opted to quit the race." (THE HERMETIC WHORE, 19)
