Haunted Houses and Family Ghosts of Kentucky by William Lynwood Montell was published by The University Press of Kentucky in 2001. This 291-page, 6" X 9", believed-to-be First Edition offering is an ex-library copy in G/G condition. The book's top/outer tip is missing a piece roughly 1/4" X 1/4"(the dust jacket is missing the corresponding piece, where the front inside jacket flap makes its inward fold). There are some of the standard library markings observed, including a rectangular-shaped, 1 1/2" X 3" sticky area toward the bottom of the jacket's spine where a Dewey Decimal label/computer bar code was apparently removed. There is, too, towards the bottom of the jacket's spine a smallish patch of white, where the original surface color has worn/been torn away, and some clear taping was required in 4-5 spots to repair/shore up smallish tears at edges of jacket's front/back cover sections. The book is SIGNED on the upper-half portion of the front loose end page, after a brief Inscription. On the reverse side of the main Title Page, the edition number line reads "05 04 03 02 01 5 4 3 2 1". From front/back inside jacket flaps, ".The first book to focus on haunted houses of the Commonwealth, [this] collection of stories details chilling events in magnificent mansions and lowly log cabins alike. For example, in 'The Ghost That Left No Tracks in the Snow', two Laurel County women receive an unwelcome visit from a spirit during a blizzard, and Mason County brothers return the stare of a floating head in 'Ghostly Footsteps'. .Numerous tales from almost all of Kentucky's 120 counties recall eerie visitations from ghostly grandmothers, husbands, daughters, uncles, cousins, babies, slaves, Civil War soldiers, dogs, sheep, and even wildcats. Montell presents the stories exactly as they were told to or obtained by him, leaving readers to decide whether the thing that goes 'bump' in the night is a mere mouse or monstrous ghost." Also included are Contents page, List of Illustrations(there are 11 in all), Story Notes, and an Index To Stories By County. Immediately following said Index, by the way, is a County Map of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. This fascinating collection of weird tales is organized into two parts: Part One, "Haunted Houses", occupies the first 224 pages; Part Two, "Family Ghosts", takes up the remaining 48 pages. If you're still reading, you may well have already heard, or perhaps told, some of the very stories between the cover boards of this volume, or would like to read them for the first time. Thanks very much!!. N° de ref. del artículo 005750
