Descripción

HATLEY is the history of a central Wisconsin village from before the coming of the railroad when the land was covered with forest. The railroad from Eland to Wausau completed in 1880 enabled three successive mills to market pine, hemlock and hardward {SIC} lumber and provide employment. Many of the mill and woods workers were of Polish extraction and many came from the Polonia area, 30 miles south. By the time that the last mill shut down in 1920, diary farms were established on the cutover land and the mill and woods workers became farmers. The village became a farm support community. Potatoes were a cashg crop." This book has 151 pages and is profusely illustrated. The book is a SIGNED copy from the author, Verne Pickering. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
