Descripción

"A photography is but an instant, a split second frozen in film, be it a smile, a jumping girl, a movement of the hand or the light caressing the petals of an orchid. It is most of all a balance between color and light. The camera stops the flow of time and captures the moment. The lens can only approximate what the eye so perfectly appreciates. Life is hard in Haiti, the countrty is poor, the sun always blazing-sweat is not the result of athletic endeavor-people do not live behind walls, doors or shutters, one sees them all the time playing, crying, eating, washing, having their hair done or watching television out in the open. There is certain dignity in their happy smiles. To me these scenes represent the real life of Haitians. Alas seeing is not photographing. Haitians do not like to be photographed, and when the camera was pointed at them, they often refused to be caught on film, and I respected their refusal. On rare occasions I felt like a hunter stalking a prey, yet most of the time it was a pleasant experience thanks to the charming character of the Haitians." This book has 158 pages and is profusely illustrated. The captions for the photographs are written in ENGLISH/FRENCH. N° de ref. de la librería 061069

Acerca de

Sinopsis:

Eight years ago when Daniel Kedar first came to haiti, he was struck by the blue sky, the warm weather, the smiling Haitians and the luscious colors. Like many before him he fell under the spell of this enchanting island. There are few recent photographic essays on Haiti, and most of these stress the bizarre and violent aspect of the country. They do not reflect what he saw, and so he decided to take pictures himself. He quoted "To capture the magic of Haiti on film is not an easy task; too many images emerge before the eye as one moves about the island". In this book he tried to freeze a few of these impressions.
