Descripción:

The Out of Door Library; 6 p.l., 327 pages; Publisher's blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt. First edition of this volume of Scribner's "Out of Door Library." The following note appears in the front matter: "The chapters in this volume have appeared at different times in Scribner's magazine, and having been revised by their authors, are published now for the first time in book form." The contents: I. Hunting American Big Game, by Archibald Rogers.--II. Camping and Hunting in the Shoshone, by W.S. Rainsford.--III. Climbing for white goats, by George Bird Grinnell.--IV. Sport in an untouched American wilderness, by Frederic Irland.--V.A Kangaroo Junt, by Birge Harrison.--VI. The Last of the Buffalo, by George Bird Grinnell.--VII. At St. Mary's, by Harry C. Hale.--VIII. Hunting Musk-Ox with the Dog Ribs, by Frank Russell. One of the A. B. Frost illustrations to Archibald Rogers' lead contribution ['Hunting American Big Game'] has been annotated by an early owner at the bottom margin, in pencil -- (correctly pointing out that one of the figures Frost depicted was holding a gun in "a very dangerous way" but also pointing out that this was to help Frost draw the gun in proper detail). This owner was apparently "H. T. Breedon" of Philadelphia, whose neat ink signature appears on the front free endpaper, along with two small, decorative blind-stamps with the simple initial "B" (on the front free-endpaper, and first leaf of the text, only). No other marks. First edition of this interesting classic of big game hunting. OCLC Number: 3767338. N° de ref. de la librería
