Zogbaum was an illustrator that specialized in military and naval illustrations. He visited Montana, Indian Territory, and other Western locations for research purposes. This work is dedicated to Army life with sections about France, Great Britain, Germany, and the American West. The largest section applies to Army life in the West. Zogbaum's descriptions of the hardships and excitement of being on the march with a calvary column is second to none.
