Tes, this wonderful 372 page history, being an increasingly well respected and energetically applauded offering it is proudly presented with great and well deserved hubris by Hirschfeld Galleries in BOTH the publishers original binding and original dustwrapper. The binding is navy blue cloth with gilt titling and this baby is rock solid tight and clean, AAA unbumped all the way. The unclipped jacket is also nice, save for moderate edge chipping and substantial sunning to spine. But not to worry or be sad, for said imperfection is made considerably less objectionable, since, on the very positive side of things, the jacket is now and forevermore protected from any future ambient abuse and resulting degradation by professionally fitted and applied yet instantly removable Brodart mylar. This is the uncensored authorized story of the great national fraternity from its founding to the present day. Mr. Voorhees is the official Historian of Phi Beta Kappa. The Society itself is a landmark in the American Scene and this comprehensive authoritative history is a monument to its influence and importance in American culture. Contents, Preface, Foreword. 1]The founding of the society :1776. 2]The extension to New England. 3]The early New England period. 4] A period of testing : 1788-c.1818. 5] A time of inner development : c.1818-1845. 6] Decades of rapid expansion : 1845-1876. 7] The uniting of the chapters : 1876-1883. 8] Developing procedure : 1883-1901. 9] Decades of steady growth : 1901-1922. 10] The sesquicentennial period : 1922-1928. 11] The Society since 1928. 82 very interesting illustrations. Publisher's yellowed paper gives it an extra touch of class. Hirschfeld Galleries' offerings such as this one which take on a life of their own and speak so very loudly for themselves. Read to learn and enjoy; go forth to share and enjoin. Research, analysis, dissertation, lucubrations or just enjoyment, this is the one. ACTUAL BOOK FOR SALE PICTURED.
