Although the 3rd Battalion of the 7th Rajput Regiment was not actually raised until 1824, as stated in the Army List, it bears the title of a much earlier formation and so the first chapter in this regimental history traces back to 1778. Subsequent chapters cover: From the Barrackpore Mutiny to the First Sikh War, 1824-45. The First Sikh War, 1845-7. Burma, the Mutiny and China, 1847-60. From the China War to the Egyptian Campaign, 1860-82. Regimental Life, 1882-1900. China: the Boxer Campaign, 1900-1. Service on the North-West Frontier and in the Persian Gulf, 1901-14. Early Operations in Mesopotamia, 1914-15. The Advance on Baghdad. Capture of Amara; Battle of Es-Sinn or Kul-al-Amara, Battle of Ctesiphon, 1915. Retreat from Ctesiphon and Siege of Kut-al-Amara, 1915-17. Operations of the Aden Field Force, 1917-21. Reorganization in Waziristan, and the battleship Khaisora Valley, 1921-39.
