Título: Greece in the Bronze Age.
Condición del libro: Antiquarian
University of Chicago Press, Chicago / London, 1972. 5th impr. XXI,406,XLVIIIp. ills.(B&W photographs and line drawings).Original decorative cloth. Spine gilt titled. Name and date on free endpaper. ?Here is a much-needed survey of Greece from 6500 to 1100 B.C. (?) Necessarily the text is largely a synthesis. No easy task this, for the sources are scattered and the apprenticeship arduous; but Mrs. Vermeule can boast impressive credentials. Trained as a classicist (?), she has also had extensive archaeological experience in the field and in the museum (?). Her aim, happily, has been soundness rather than novelty; the result is a sensible intermediate text-book. The successive phases of prehistoric Greece pass before us: material remains (architecture, pottery, sculpture, painting), burial customs, trade, even racial affinities, language, and religion. The people are brought to life deftly, in sprightly and often memorable style. (?) All this is narrated with professional skill, and freedom from prejudice. (?) Emphatically the right book at the right time by the right author.? (WALLACE McLEOD in Phoenix, 1965, pp.237-39). Antiquarian. N° de ref. de la librería 34103
Sinopsis: "Vermeule has done a great service for specialists and laymen alike. Her vision is fresh, and her writing never lacks verve. Her coverage of the subject is thorough, spacious, and fully up to date. Among scholars, some of her judgments will undoubtedly provoke discussion; but all readers will welcome the excellence of her documentation". -- C. Wilfrid Scott-Giles, Times Literary Supplement

Descripción de la librería: Scrinium Classical Antiquity, member of the Dutch Association of Antiquarian Booksellers (NVvA - ILAB), stands for a specialized stock of new, secondhand and antiquarian books about Classical Antiquity. The main theme of our books is Classical Antiquity: texts and commentaries, translations, archeology, philosophy, travel, history, mythology, books for young people, philology, law, reception of classical motives in Middle Ages, Renaissance and our own time and neo-Hellenika (conptemporary Greece), and many more subjects. A more modest quantity of our books concerns countries, civilisations and religious movements on the edges of the classical world: e.g. Egypt, Middle East and Early Christianity. New books are partly in stock, partly to be ordered from publishers. We are connected to a large number of publishers and distributors, established both in the Netherlands and abroad.
